How To Make Every Day Easier?
Make it relative. Start every day with a difficult task, and the rest of the day will feel a whole lot easier. Now, other than that, why do we do this?
Starting your day with a challenge builds confidence in your ability to keep doing the hard task day in and day out.
Discipline - It becomes a task you must complete in the morning every day
Most of the difficult task examples I’m going to provide will make you feel good after completing them (immediate reward yay!)
It is a daily mental battle to get out of bed and complete a difficult task, and I consider that half the fun.
What are some examples of difficult morning tasks?
Ice bath/cold shower - my personal favourite because it isn’t time consuming yet feels like forever once in it. The goal here is to continuously keep cold water on your body which aids in the production of dopamine (the “reward seeking” neurotransmitter) Focus on slow, deep breaths for the 1-3 minutes you’re doing it (it helps your body understand that you’re not in a panic state).
Early morning run - Nobody wants to do it, but if cardio is a part of achieving a goal you have, this is an excellent way to get it done and out of the way. Spend 10-20 minutes and now you have just done more activity than all your peers.
Sudoku - My Grandma’s personal favourite and maybe it will be yours too! Sudoku doesn’t challenge the body nearly as much as the mind, and for that I rank it lower (also a lower barrier to entry. If you start here, you are already putting time aside for your challenging task each week moving forward).
Gym - For those of you that want to break into weight training, but feel like you don’t have enough time in the week, set aside 45 minutes in the mornings to go through your routine (be mindful you’re giving enough time between muscle groups so that they can rest and recover. These are only a few ideas, but be creative, come up with your own task, and give yourself bonus points if it challenges the mind and body!
As always, if you have questions about anything I talk about, feel free to send me a message! With that being said I hope you all are having a great Monday!
Best,
~Kyle
