Food in Moderation?

Happy Easter!🐣🐇 This week I wanted to talk about food choices, how to manage special holidays where big meals and sweet treats are readily available.

So, what does moderation mean? Typically, moderations in the context of food choices is about the frequency in which you consume a certain food or type of food. This example is usually seen when talking about “bad food” or “cheat meals”. The way I see moderation, is to eat according to your food plan day in and day out, and if you happen to be around some food you think you shouldn’t eat but really want to eat, then by all means enjoy yourself and have that food.

At Spice Of Life Wellness, my plan for you is to feel better, be happier, and live healthier. Maybe that is losing weight, feeling less lethargic, gaining muscle, sleeping better, or having more energy. Depending on your goals, it may be ideal to treat these foods and cravings like a treat, but the goal will never be to avoid them at all costs. There are times when you want to reward yourself, and this is a great time to do so, but if your goals is weight loss, it is also something you should think about and plan carefully, to make it feel even more worth it.

Now, considering the holidays where lots of you are eating massive plates of food because there is an abundance of food around, we can change this in a couple ways. The easiest, if weight loss is the goal, is simply to eat less food. However, something to also consider is that holidays do not happen often, you are usually spending time with loved ones, and the goal is love, serotonin, celebration, and happiness. So by all means, indulge a little more than usual and enjoy some extra food. For those of you looking to gain muscle, pack as much food and protein in as you can, and celebrate knowing you have little to no restriction when it comes to whole food quantity, wooooo!

I have been through many eating phases, being too strict, not being strict enough, not tracking my food, to tracking everything (yes, even on holidays), and now, I like to see the big picture instead of stressing over one meal or a couple donuts. To conclude this weeks newsletter, the most important takeaway I would like to you to have is this:

Consider your goals, consider how disciplined you are in achieving it, and make a judgement call whether it is worth it. Most importantly, do NOT have regret after making this choice. Consider how it made you feel, and re-assess for the next opportunity.

Happy Monday and enjoy the rest of your week!
